Analysis of Fallen Arches
Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)
Stiff and stagnant days
Meld into the next,
Pain intertwines
With the ticking clock,
A metronome of agony,
Relentless,
Unyielding,
Smeared like ink
Across the pages of existence.
Whispered echoes
Of throbbing pulses,
Each beat a reminder
Of the body's betrayal,
A symphony of suffering,
Composed in discord,
Where harmony
Is a distant memory,
Forgotten.
Limbs ache
In silent surrender,
As if bones and sinew
Were conspiring,
Straining against
The weight of existence,
Each step
A battle against
An invisible foe.
A sunken sun
Casts long shadows,
Deeper than the darkness
Of weary creatures,
Haunting the corners
Of this pain-wracked vessel,
A constant companion,
Nuzzling with its claws.
In the depths of night,
The mind wanders,
Sailing through fragmented
Landscapes of dreams,
Yearning for a slumber
Untouched by the cruel grip,
Only to be thrust back
Into the reality
Of aching dawns.
Hours elongate
Into infinite spaces,
Minutes crawl
Like wounded insects,
Time warps and sways,
A distorted dance,
As the body twists
In agony,
Praying for relief.
Invisible chains
Hold tight in their grasp,
Immobilizing movement,
Strength sapped away,
A prisoner within
One's own fragile skin,
Captured by the relentless
Tyranny of chronic pain.
No respite,
No escape,
Just a gentle hum,
A cruel reminder
That this body is a battleground,
Where every breath,
Every pulse,
Every sigh,
Becomes a poignant symphony
Of persistent affliction.
