Analysis of I Don't Believe You

I don't believe a word you say
Each time you compliment
The many things I do and say,
Though they are all well-meant.

My mind has built a wall to be
Protection from all words.
My thoughts of inferiority
Reflect the cold observed.

Whoever said that words cannot
Do harm to anyone,
Was deaf to what mean words have wrought
And kind words not begun!
