Analysis of Rising Star

Charles Edward York 1966 (Saigon, Vietnam)

I am a rising star on an endless horizon
From a long night of suffering alone
Dreams I once kept in secret
Now get their chance to breathe
You said you loved me
Everyday it was just a lie
Neglecting me as your orphan
I escaped with my life in time.

You lured me with your body and charms
And I risked everything I was
Our new forever tattooed on me
Sadly reminds me you are a fraud
Your affections were empty
Frozen as imposing icebergs
I had the misfortune of running
Into your disaster and sank.

I am a rising star on an endless horizon
Surfacing from a dark sea alone
My will to live stronger than you
Ready to breathe and exhale
Loving myself is the lesson
I learned from your absent affection
I’m learning to swim and rise
Without you to hold me down.
