Analysis of Amherstburg
Rivertown, along the Detroit River,
Where the river and Erie do meet,
Summer is so warm, in winters do shiver,
Friendly are the people you meet,
“You’ll love it here” is the popular tweet.
Established and populated centuries ago,
Long before there was an Ontario,
This was Quebec’s most westerly stockade,
Serving the King’s interests and facilitated trade.
After the American war for Independence was over,
Area Indigenous tribes to townsfolk some land did offer,
Thus, laying the foundation for the town we know today.
A railway was laid, in the Americas, the first that is known,
It routed people of color with enormous risk, to this town.
Steeped in history the record books all show,
Military and navy are among the earliest we know,
Engaged in combat in 1812, we did repel the foe,
After that conflict how you did flourish and grow.
Peaceful coexistence is now the order of the day,
Parks replace barracks, where visitors relax or play,
People visit from all over, some from Amerikay,
Rivertown people come to stay, few ever move away.
Craft breweries and wineries are all the go,
The finest there is in all of Ontario,
Nested in this ambience is how residents meet,
“You’ll love it here” is the popular tweet.
