Analysis of Worldly Warning
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Do not love the Earth,
Or the things in it;
For lust has no worth,
In what you merit.
If you love this place,
Love from God is not;
And He sheds no grace,
For things that you sought.
For all that is here,
That flesh desires;
What the eyes revere,
That pride acquires.
It is from this place,
Not from the Father;
For if you embrace,
To God a loather.
It will pass away,
With its desires;
Like your lusts someday,
Burning in fires.
But to do His will,
Abides forever;
Since He does instill,
Love not to sever.
