Analysis of Dear Child
Jonathan Conway 2009 (Greenville, OH)
By Joe Dusek
How long will I sit in mourning dark
I wait evermore for morning lark
I’m misunderstood I’m feared in vain
While none, even me ,know if I’m sane
I pray for the day I can walk the streets
Without hearing screams and running feets
I long to escape this wretched place
To look on the sun and see her face
For even in my sleep
I weep
For anythings gone when it passes these gates
Oh, curse the fear that my name begates
A prisoner in this dark domaine
Where all my tears are cried in vain
So I plead once more, no I won't wait. Nome!
I beg dear child, Will you take me home?
(original end)
In the sunlights where I long to roam
To walk on springy turf and loam
Alas trapped in these darkened chambers
Where all I “Know” revealed as strangers
And who am I to face the danger
I’m no hero, mage, or ranger
For if I seek hope I face the risk
Of being robbed and human “Tisk”
But is this life a life worth living?
With no one to greet with giving?
Well heroes aren't born they're made
So from this challenge I will not fade
In search of hope I leave this place
And when danger comes I can’t slow my pace
