Analysis of COLORS SHOW FEELINGS (Poem #159)

RED
For a rose which reminds me of my first love.
And the love of a Savior who came from above.

GREEN
For the very first dollar I ever regularly made,
Coming home to my family, proudly giving it a wave

WHITE
The color of my wedding gown of pearls and lace,
As I dreamed of the day with a smile on my face.

PINK
Is the color of my little one's two rosy cheeks,
This bundle of joy for which I've waited for weeks.

YELLOW
The color of my little girl's long shiny curls.
Dancing in her pretty party dress as she twirls.

BLUE
How I felt sending my child to school the first time,
Knowing that never again will he be all mine.

ORANGE
As bright as the sunshine I see in a sunrise,
Warming me to my soul, flooding through my eyes.

PURPLE
Violets, hyacinths, lilacs and lavender too
Bring color to springtime as it comes bursting thru.

BROWN
The color of my favorite, chocolate candy,
Which can make any day seem just dandy.

BLACK
The color they may wear when at my grave
When feelings of colors my whole life I've saved.

So I say send me off with rainbows and
       balloons and butterflies,
For the feelings of love will then be
      showing in your eyes.

Jean Gorney

I wrote a poem for my daughter and new son-in-law and read it at their wedding reception in 1997. People have been encouraging me ever since. I try to write up-beat and happy poetry. My poetry has been in many anthologies, newspapers, church bulletins, etc. I won a small contest once. I self-published some small(4x5)books with about 16 poems in each that can be used as greeting cards. I include an envelope for mailing. Check them out on my FB page under Jean Magill Gorney. more…
