Analysis of Just A Fling

We fear the loss of what we love:
person, place or thing.
We simply toss or give a shove
when it's just a fling.

We must protect the beautiful:
person, place or thing.
We soon neglect the dutiful
when it's just a fling.

We hold on tight to a treasure:
person, place or thing.
We travel light in lean pleasure
when it's just a fling.

We fight a war for prized ideals:
person, place or thing.
We close the door without appeals
when it's just a fling.
