Analysis of Overseas Filipino Workers

~Even just a text message~
Dedicated to: O.F.W. (Overseas Filipino Workers all around the world.)

Your Father left...
To find a work and this is his first step.
So faraway, in other nation.
For his family's salvation.
Because here in our Country,
One big problem is the salary.

This is for his family's daily needs,
Especially the tuition fees at school indeed.
The provision or monthly allowance of his kids,
Especially now that everything is so expensive.

Even just a text message,
Coming from his beloved family,
It can make him so happy.
A massage to his tired and aching body,
It can make him feel stronger, more each day.
It can put a smile on his face even if he's busy.

All of these endeavors,
Are for his loved ones' brighter future.
A better life is his dream for them to savor,
He always pray and hope to succeed not to be a failure.

Your Mother left...
To work abroad and it's hard for her to move her feet.
Thinking to be away from her children,
But she needed to go because you all know.
Your father's income is not enough,
To sustain your needs today and the coming days.

Other reason was her husband went astray,
To the house of other woman.
And caused a broken family
Then the wife raised their kids as best she could
She worked abroad and left
the kids with her mom's care

Even just a text message,
Coming from her beloved family,
It can make her so happy.
A massage to her tired and aching body,
It can make her feel stronger, more each day.
It can put a smile on her face even if she's busy.

All of these endeavors,
Are for her love ones brighter future.
A better life was her dream for them to savor,
She always pray and hope to succeed not to be a failure.

Please, don't be ashamed if your Mom's work is a Maid.
Because of its salary, your families debt was paid.
You can eat and buy pricy foods,
You can buy a nice shoes and clothes.
In a private school you were enrolled,
Above all, it's a noble and decent job dude.

Your Brother or Sister left...
His/Her beloved family that's for sure he/she will terribly missed.
Because he's/she's the only hope,
That's what your parents thought.
And there's no choice because he's/she's the eldest.
For his/her family he/she will gonna do his/her best.

So to all of his/her siblings that he/she send to school.
Don't waste his/her hardly-earned money.
Finish your studies, this is what he's/she's been asking for.
He/She will be proud and very happy,
If his/her dreams come true, he/she could not ask for more.

Don't brag with your friends that you've got plenty of money,
It's not given to you just to waste it any ways

To produce that amount, he/she exerted lots of energy,
Being an O.F.W., you can't just have easy money

To all parents out there who have poor insights
Or parents who doesn't know if they do things right or wrong
They don't value their children's hardships abroad,
Just to send them their monthly allotment.
Some Mothers play Mahjong in the neighborhood,
If the provision was delayed, you can hear the bad sentiment.

Some Fathers are busy meeting up the village Drunkards,
Or do Gambling like c*ck fighting and playing cards.
If it's only a diversion then it can't be wrong,
Sometimes, parents are not aware of their limitations

Don't ever forget to send even just a text message,
To our loved ones who work in a foreign land,
Whenever you have a mobile credit or load.
No one knows what might happen to them abroad.

We didn't know if we can still see them again in this world,
Or maybe we can see and hug them but the body was hard and cold,
And hands can no longer hold...
So don't be lazy to type and send even just the three words.

Joan Pacinabo

This is my second account here in poetry.com. This is my facebook account I use to signed up. Using my real name. Wu Lang is my pen name that I used in my first account. I'm Filipino working here in Taiwan as Caregiver for Elderly. I'm the eldest and breadwinner of the family. I'm a Butch Lesbian. I write officially at the age of 15. I used to wrote poetry in Filipino, our National Language and my native dialect Hiligaynon. But I decided to write it in English because I want to submit some of my work to our High School newspaper together with my Tagalog poems back then. I'm glad they like it and published 6 poetry of mine. EEC's OFW newspaper here in Taiwan featured 2 of my poetry on their Mother's Day edition years ago. I still have problems with my grammar but I can say I improved. By chatting and e-penpaling helps me a lot too. I'm getting used speaking Chinese everyday, so I need to practice English as well because its very important and it's a universal language.I don't want to believed in Zodiac Signs but Gemini/Rat speaks a lot about me...80% of it are true and the 20%, I got it from my parents. more…
