Analysis of Taken

Taken, between bridges
where the brackish water bends,
leaning in for winding ways
of rushing through and out again.

Taken, near the current
where the water meets the lights,
shimmered picture of the city
reflecting silhouettes of the night.

Taken, under skies
that drown the modest of the stars,
our city lights are competition
for the ones that glisten far.

Taken, as the wind
seeps through our outline in the air,
drowning in the shadow
of our figures standing there.

Taken, when a kiss
sinks into me and back to you,
opened eyes enough to see
that you can feel the river too.

Jana Satterlund

I wrote my first poem at the age of 10. Although I enjoyed reading and writing poetry, I didn't truly appreciate it until a few years ago. At 21 I started really writing for myself as a release. It has surely become my escape, my late night ritual, my confession. I feel honored to be a part of this community where so many talented poets come together. I appreciate any sentiment and am elated at the opportunity to comment on so many beautiful pieces! more…
