Analysis of The First Kiss

Her smile, first noticed, the way it filled her eyes
Followed by the warmth of her hands, shifting focus
Awaking memories of night passion, enjoyed by two
And the fear of rejection or loose, thrills for the youth
So after returning her smile he turned also back
To past loves and loses, signs of a full life lived
Unwilling to face the beast again, no more pain.

His mind played over each moment, he reached for the phone
Just a call to tell her he enjoyed the meeting, casual charms
Only an expression of civil respect, refined appreciation
To hear her voice just once more, feel her breath
“Would I like to see her? Come visit?” NO
“Next week would be fine.” You're too old for this
Red eyes gleam nearer, teeth recalled his flesh taste.

Each passing day he meant to call, cancel the meeting
Time stretched then folded in on itself, a week had passed
It's not too late, one quick call, “I'm far too busy”
But the heart finds its own voice from beneath the rubble
“Go and have fun, enjoy the moment, expect nothing”
Bold is he who will not die without the favor of love
Glad are the eyes that can still see her changing face.

As the echoes of friends past call encouragements, he smiles
And true lovers wish him good tidings, strides become swifter
Birds calls on sea breezes to the surf's roar, blood in his veins
And time stops with the first glimpse of her face, fears leave
A smile from a goddess greets his approach, peace descends
Joy gains new meaning, age fades replaced by youth timeless
For her a first; he remembers; they share 'the first kiss'.
