For The Miracle Healing
John Jessup Kennan 1953 (Pomona)
The raven perched in the crow's nest
Proclaims dark shadowy dreams
Visions disturbed and disturbing
Denying whatever redeems
Lighthouse nestles into dark fog
Disappears into the out of range
Streets devolve into parking meters
Everybody's out of change
The scavenger in the turret
With his pipedreams and nevermores
To madness as if it could hear
Speaks chaos in musical scores
But the betterness which is you
Lights whateverness which is me
I could envy the visions you see
But I'm happy to be able to be
Take the pistol from my vest
Lay your head upon my chest
I prepare for you a softer rest
The flower upon my breast
We'll feel the warm wet as tears fall
From angels down onto our bed
The waste of a love worth living
In mourning for the living dead
Let the raven continue raving
Where the wounded fall into the gaps
Let the skeptics wag their tongues
Let the scavengers pick at scraps
We're here for the miracle healing
Our story foretold long ago
There are no surprises, nothing is new
There are no new somewheres to go
Sweetness, just lay here in silence
Just lose all the battles to win
That price has been paid for us all
In those warm wet tears on our skin
Take the pistol from my vest
Lay your head upon my chest
I prepare for you a softer rest
The flower upon my breast
