To a Friend
To a Friend
O brother, my dear brother, our journey has been paused
But only for a little bit, my death has only caused A transient separation, a mere trifling of time Lo soon you will be here with me, anon all will be fine
O brother, my dear brother, you have loved me with all your heart.
So remember, my dear brother, we will never be apart
This separation we must endure is fleeting, just a flit
An evanescent wisp of time, then again we will be knit
O brother, my dear brother, you were with me till the end
I’ll always know that through it all, you remained my one true friend
You never left me, you stayed close by, grateful for that am I
I saw your hurt, I saw your pain, each teardrop in your eye
O brother, my dear brother, it is right for you to mourn
To weep and cry and shout at God, whose curse we all have worn
Telluric trials we both have known, yet we hold our heads upright
Knowing it is through trials like these that a man is made all right
So brother, my dear brother, as you tarry away from me
Remember what the good book says, and how we ought to be
The good book says there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother
Jesus is one, yes, and so are you – I love you like no other
