Christian Ethics
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Let love be genuine,
Without dissimulation;
Hold fast to anyone,
With good reputation.
Abhor what is evil,
Cleaving to what is good;
Avoiding the devil,
Of the things that he would.
Be kind to each other,
By giving them honor;
Treating like a brother,
Display as a fawner.
Be not slothful in zeal,
Be fervent in spirit;
Serve the Lord to appeal,
In all that you merit.
Be constantly in prayer,
Rejoicing in the hope;
To God in what you share,
The trials that you cope.
Contribute to the needs,
Hospitable to saints;
Blessing of their good deeds,
Without having complaints.
Bless those who persecute,
Bless and do not curse them;
Argue not or dispute,
God will judge and condemn.
Rejoice with who is glad,
And live in harmony;
Weep with those who are sad,
Soothe if in agony.
Avoid who is naughty,
Stay with who is lowly;
And never be haughty,
Rather to be holy.
Pay no one with evil,
Giving honor in thought;
Work not for the devil,
Only what Christ has sought.
