On the Edge Of The Lonely Shore
On the edge of the lonely shore, you find yourself struggling once, twice, or even more,
Behind those eyes, wherein the darkness seeps and pours, nobody can see the battle you have fought.
Tired and weary, you fall to the floor, without a mere thought of what you have done before.
On the wind I hear a sigh as the sand grains cover you, my fallen brother.
Here you lie in a perpetual state of time, I will say this last goodbye, as you drift away upon the edge of the lonely shore.
Night is falling and so is the day, the road calls you along, do not look back, it will be okay,
You must away over bump, hole, crack, patch and hell, over the hills you go, and under tree,
Through dark lands where no light has ever shone, you seem lost in the travel across your silver stream,
You turn at last on paths that lead you home, you came so far and travelled to so many places, you had laughs, tears, fears and cheers.
Here you transition across your timeline, after the bells have rung with the last goodbyes, as you fade away from the edge of the lonely shore.
As we all move forward and the picture becomes clearer, I need you to take care of yourself and when life goes wrong, re-baseline and start from where you find yourself.
Don’t look back wistfully, look forward expectantly. After all, if you want to go fast, go alone - if you want to go far, go together with those whom you share the same path with on your journey.
That doesn’t mean we have a licence to be reckless. Far from it in fact, but it does mean we need to be sensible and balanced which is clearly not what is happening at the moment which is why everyone is suffering mentally.
The paths forever branch off in different ways, and as you continue your journey into the next life, you no longer are succumbed to being on the edge of the lonely shore.
We went all this way and today is the day that we must part ways, even if only temporary because lets face it, as life is finite, it really is a matter of days.
For this I bestow upon you, please do suffer alone because I will be always be here for you.
Thank you for reading. This is the hardest poem that I have written.
About this poem
This poem has been written about a close friend of mine who made the sad decision to end his life, and is for anyone who has had, or have, mental health struggles in their time. This is very personal, and touches on very dark topics, so this may be upsetting to read.
