Teaching True and False
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Godliness with peace is great gain,
Binging nothing into this world;
Nothing out that we would obtain,
As the plans of God are unfurled.
For if we have food and clothing,
With only these we are content;
Since the Lord supply everything,
There is no need for to lament.
But those who would desire wealth,
They will fall into temptation;
As they lose their spiritual health.
For they will lose their salvation.
Snared by their harmful desires,
Plunging them into destruction;
They will lose what one acquires,
Because of evil abduction.
Because of the love of money,
Which would be the root of evil;
Lures like the sweet taste of honey,
As seduction by the devil.
It is always through this craving,
Causing some to wander away;
Preventing Jesus from saving,
Because they are going astray.
But as for you, O man of God,
Flee these things by pursuing love;
Righteousness to honor and laud,
A steadfast faith from up above.
Keep the faith and fight the good fight,
Take hold of the eternal life;
The good confession gives insight,
Aiding you in avoiding strife.
