Best Friends Forever
From the first day we met,
I knew we’d be friends.
But even I never imagined how good.
Though we were different,
we just got along.
We had so many things different.
We had so many things the same.
The balance of things so perfect.
We worked in the same place,
but in different rooms.
When we had problems,
we’d solve those too.
We went to the gym to workout.
We went to the fridge to pig out.
After 3 years, I had to go.
A new assignment in Texas for me,
a bit longer in Japan for you.
I had a chance and should have stayed.
Missing you was my #1 regret.
I went to Austin in 1985.
You went to Austin in 1989.
We were together again.
This time I knew it would be
much longer than before.
We are both transplanted Texans.
We got there as fast as we could.
I got a job next to Austin.
You got a job next to Austin.
We hung out almost as much as when,
we worked together in Japan.
Then one day, due to not finding a job,
I decided to move away.
I was moving to the Philippines.
A place that I love.
A place that you love.
After I left you got so sick.
I could have helped you adjust.
Then one day I got a call
From you daughter
Telling me that you passed.
You laid in your bed as you died
I laid in my bed as I cried.
I think about you most every day
Maybe if I was there things
would have been different.
Maybe you’d be alive today.
Goodbye my friend
I’ll miss you and
Always remember you.
I hope to see you again,
on my dying day.
