One in Christ
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Remember being Gentiles,
Uncircumcised of flesh by hands;
Because of lavish lifestyles,
You honor not godly commands.
Remember being divided,
Separated from Jesus Christ;
As earthly pleasures have guided,
Being immorally enticed.
You had no hope within the Lord,
Once were far off but been brought near;
At one time you merely ignored,
But the blood of Christ made you fear.
For He is peace of heart and mind,
Breaking down the dividing wall;
With a new solace that you find,
For rescuing you from your fall.
By abolishing the commandment,
Expressed in the ordinances;
Established a new covenant,
And a new command advances.
For it just might reconcile,
Being one body through the cross;
Peace in both Jew and Gentile,
And no longer suffering loss.
Jesus Christ had come to preach peace,
For both the far off and the near;
Getting hostilities to cease,
For worshipping God and revere.
Through Him we are having access,
In one Spirit to the Father;
Being adopted He will bless,
In calling Christ our Brother.
No longer as a foreigner,
Rather citizens with the saints;
Not as a carnal prisoner,
But accept God without restraints.
Built on a divine foundation,
Of apostles and oracles;
Cornerstone for a salvation,
That overcome past obstacles.
