Windows and Doors
John Allen Wiedeman 1935 (Manhattan)
A little boy who could not see,
Was lying in his room,
His eyes covered over with gauze,
Which would be taken off soon,
The doctor came in,
The nurses came in,
And mommy and daddy, too,
The hour had come to unveil the eyes,
And possibly unveil the gloom,
The doctor snipped the bandages loose,
And carefully unwrapped the gauze,
The little boy now lifted his head,
His eyes moved but they didn’t pauze,
And then, his mommy started to speak,
And his eyes went straight to her,
For up to that moment, he didn’t know,
His mom from the window or door,
But now, as he, connected by sight,
The love he’d known through the years,
The happiness there, that lit up his face,
Brought doctor and nurses to tears,
As so went his day, I hope and I pray,
So too, will go some of ours,
The things we love, around us all day,
Get mixed up with windows and doors,
About this poem
Got it from the collective subconscious. Fishing around, it came. Didn't do much correcting. It just (mostly) came.
