MONOLOGUE FROM THE BOWELS
Olatoye Ogunmola 1969 (Abeokuta)
I’ve seen moments of joy and moments of sorrow
Shed tears of joy and tears of pain
I’ve danced like no tomorrow
Yet had lain sick, wondering if I would be here tomorrow
I’ve been a boss and had been bossed
I’ve prayed and got answers on the instant
But prayed other times and had to tarry
Sometimes the answers never came, or so I thought
I have trekked miles under the African blistering heat
But have been chauffeured a distance too
In heaven-like chilly autos
Loathing the scrutiny of sun-rays that’d surely come
I’ve been trampled upon and people have raised me up
I’ve helped but had ingloriously withheld too
I’ve sown and came back with gluts
Yet at other times returned with no yield
I’ve known to have and to have not
Known to be full and to be frazzled
Yeah, my pantry had been full
And had been empty
But what really do I know?
NOTHING!
Not known death, but surely will one day die
Then will I transit into what I do not know
People, times and seasons change
But the LORD remains forever.
