CAT BURGLAR
CAT BURGLAR
Like a burglar, in she came
Scratching up my window pane
The cat was old, her paws were deft
She eased in as she held her breath
Not a purr, meow or swish
She wanted in and got her wish
She eased on down the drapery
For all her bathroom capery
By the soap-dish, she did pause
To test her weight and spring her claws
And in one bound of brevity
She mocked the laws of gravity
She landed upright, as cats do
And slinky-slunkered by the loo
The door, ajar, led to the stairs
And there was dog food waiting there
Like a shadow down the hall
Whose footsteps you could not hear fall
She whisker-sniffed and licked her lips
And down by Towser as he kipped
Her luck was in, the bowl was brimming
This was no time for thoughts of slimming
She ate with grace and had her fill
As Towser lay there, dreaming still
She washed her paws as cats will do
And then bid Towser toodle-oo
Up the stairs she made her way
Not knowing that she'd made my day
Such sweet swagger in each move
It's great to see what cats can do
One jump, two jumps, window, out
With few signs that she'd been about.
