Cause to God
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Let me have silence as I speak,
And let come upon me what may;
Because of what that I may seek,
Be able to come our way.
Why should I take flesh in my teeth,
And putting my life in my hand;
Not knowing what is underneath,
That could cause another demand.
Though He slay me I will still hope,
Yet argue my ways to His face;
With the agony I do cope,
As I still look for His embrace.
For this will be my salvation,
That the godless who shall approach;
Hypocrites from the creation,
As Satan is being their coach.
Keep listening unto my words,
And my declaration in your ears;
Not flying away like the birds,
Diligently to calm your fears.
Behold, I have prepared my case,
I know I shall be in the right;
I am justified in His face,
Since He has given me insight.
Who is there that is pleading me,
Then I would be silent and die;
If I hold my tongue, would it be,
I stay in the grave where I lie.
I only ask to grant two things,
Then I will not hide from His face;
Whatever that tomorrow brings,
May it shine favor from His grace.
Let Him draw His hand far away,
Dread not of Him to terrify;
Because my yearning to obey,
As my God I cannot deny
