The Final Honor

Lost in battle, a final honor
Finally at rest, my mind can wander.

Fear not my brothers whom I cherish
A mighty cause for which I perish.

Mourn me not, for I now soar
Through boundless skies that see no war.

I feel no pain, nor any remorse
The path of destiny has taken its course.

You shall remain within my heart
Although for now, I must depart.

Keep me close, do not despair
When you need me, I’ll be there.

About this poem

I've never written poetry before but I just felt really inspired to write this since I joined Air Force ROTC. I have no idea if it's a certain style as I have never written or learned about poetry.
