into the maelstrom

.
my inner demons are awake
and they're far from happy
.
woken from their fetid slumber
by the untimely arrival
of a filthy cloud of angry hornets
similarly thrown into unenvied territory
at the wrong end of a fiery, pointed stick
.
the protagonists clash
in an unholy maelstrom
of writhing fury
as screeching thunderbolts of black, yellow and hot white
etch their bitter slogans on the walls
of the twisted corridors
of my inner sanctum
throwing up clouds of unholy smoke
which sting my eyes
.
again
and again
and again
.
finally ..
when all seems lost
my body responds
and the usurpers are thrown
without trial -
into the pit from whence they came
for now ..
