Michael
in midnight dark at my mother’s
side
in somber grave ‘neath gloomy
sky
my brother lies
in ghostly moonlight which
illumes
the cheerless words carved on his
tomb
I hear his cries
In exhaustion at night’s
end
his spectral tears I come to
tend
and so I mourn
to know he felt he couldn’t
call
me to his side when he felt
small
I feel so torn
he chose to end his life so
young
and left behind a girl child
stung
all on her own
he chose to leave me far
behind
to journey forward into
time
bruised and broken
in the gloaming
in the morning
at the death of every evening
Michael
at noon or night
in prayer or wish
I want to hold and comfort
Michael
