The Wonder of Love

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

The words of your servants come to pass
Because they are not their own
You put your words into their mouths
They never walk alone

They hear from you both day and night
You move them straight ahead
They call to you when they’re afraid
Remembering what you said

All your words are true and just
Not one of them is crooked
You have a way of saying things
That I had never looked at

When I’m alone I talk to you
But more than that I listen
And when I hear your voice in mine
Its just like we are kissing

Breath deep my love and don’t despair
I hear your Father coming
With justice he will rule the earth
But you’re the one he’s loving

Come quickly to my chambers dear
I want to hide you there
Until the storm has come and gone
I’ll hide you in my lair

A spacious place it truly is
Yet quiet and secluded
Your Father saved the best for you
Yes, in his love your root is!

Drink deep my flower; don’t be shy
Your Daddy will not make you cry
Though tears will flow and blood will spill
Remember Daddy loves you still!
