Dream or Nightmare

Reuben Kahoiwai 1980 (Honolulu, Hawaii)

You open your bedroom window
And feel the night breeze
Hear the rustling of leaves
While you gaze upon the moon
Retire back to bed
And under the covers
Into your lover's embrace
Close yours eyes
And you'll soon despise
All you could do
Is dream of me

About this poem

Most would assume this is about someone who is thinking about someone else while they already have a lover, but not me. It all depends on the perception of the dreamer. I could be a nightmare for the dreamer which is why I used the word despise. I'm either a good dream or a nightmare.
