Dawns another day

Dawn, another day beginning.
Frightened of the ending
I walk to prepare;
I think to prepare,
But there’s no preparing.

A hand , my hand,
Held out into the void.
A gaze, my gaze,
Into the darkness.
A step, my step,
Without an echo.

Paper walls of silence,
Two figures move
One on either side.
They glide about their business
And smile uncertain,
Through the veil.

Twilight ,
And another day is done.
Whatever fear is gone;
Just the numb,
Stubborn tears
A muted cry that will not come.
