Saplings
Heather Lydia Thornhill 1981 (Manchester)
As the giants of the forest gave way to fresh young saplings in the meadow.
Butterflies of light danced from the sun caressing but a few with summer radiance occasionally blinding to protect you from its overwhelming beauty.
Sustaining their thin carpeted floors.
Parting each other with goodbyes of tiny torid the rivers so shallow pebble beds were revealed into a lake in the shape of a baby seal.
As boulders mossed around them, their roots, branches, ancestors and smallest remnants of leaves nested the entire earth.
Birdsong mysteried their canopies.
It was like walking an entire lifetime with music on your mind.
Vast changes of green almost merged into one sensual leaf green colour as they almost followed the pattern of the hills in union and height.
Thinner trunks told stories of their landslid relatives. Delicate ecosystems ran their lives both with them in nature and hidden away in tiny mountains filled with their plants
The saplings touched in a sky of leafery as a surprise of animals rested in suntrapped reflections from the waters of life or raced their swathes of legs across them to find love and nourishment.
The hills often shaped them into stars as rare flowerets budded at their feet.
