I am free
Jason Marriner 1980 (Pensacola)
Must be getting old
Times catching up to me
It happens to us all I'm told
Though these changes I didn't see
Creeping up on me
At least I am free
I am free, I am free
I can do what I want to do
I can be how I want to be
I don't need permission from them or you
I am free to be me
I am free to just be
To live a life without regret
Without pain, without worry
Now I'm in no rush, but sometimes I forget
Time doesn't stand still, but there's no need to hurry
I'm still here and I know I'll survive
There's no danger in my way
I'm still standing tall and alive
Tomorrow's gonna be a better day
I know it's true because I'm still here
I look to the future and I see
A single vision crystal clear
Me on the other side, smiling and free
I am free, I am free
I can do what I want to do
I can be how I want to be
I don't need permission from them or you
I am free to be me
I am free to just be
Never thought I'd be happy
Living life on my own
But here I am, surviving hopefully
I may be single, but I'm not alone
I'm loved for who I am now
Not for what someone might want from me
There's people that care about me now
They make certain this simple fact I see
I am free, I am free
I can do what I want to do
I can be how I want to be
I don't need permission from them or you
I am free to be me
I am free to just be
I am free, I am free
I'm just me, I'm just me
I am free
About this poem
Wrote this song while listening to Touch of Grey by The Grateful Dead. While I wasn't trying to rewrite the song, I did try to stay in tempo. Might not be my best song, but I like it
