The dying trees
Heather Lydia Thornhill 1981 (Manchester)
The trees blinked their leaves
Like eyes drooping to a close
The fine rains and intense heat
Were not enough a drench
To quench their endless thirst
They browned and charred
And their trunks began to rot
They knew noone was there
To give them their lot
They had lived in the wilds
And relied on their God
And when it was time
They could not weep
And so they fell piece by piece
Branches snapped
roots became lame
And where they once blew
There was noone to blame
