Little Things that Matter
It is not the few times you speak
That captures my interest;
It is not those few times we've talked,
But those few moments you smile;
Thinking no one's watching.
It is those unsuspecting eyes
And your dimpled face blessed with a diastema,
That throws me overboard each time.
It is not your history
That have drawn me closer to know you;
It is not your narrative
But rather, when you settle down in your regular silence,
Whilst I watch from afar.
It is when you at a corner scrolling through your phone,
Smiling at nothing in particular,
That drops me drowning in your fondness.
It is not the way you speak, fluent to perfection;
It is the way you pay attention
Even when I'm saying nothing,
That have gotten me neck-deep in this marsh of a feeling.
It is not those many times we cackle in certain moods
But those few moments we share our fears and certitudes,
Stealing many glances in silence,
That keeps me longing for your closeness.
It is not your intelligence
That have gotten me so attracted to you,
Making me restive in your absence;
It is those little gossip of ours you tender with a smile;
Such little things that matters.
It is those little trips we take to nowhere,
Combing through flowers and petals,
That have gotten me so attached to you.
It is not your suave
That have blurred my attention making me stumble,
Falling head over heels behind your knowledge.
It is not your exposure
But rather, your confidence and composure,
And the way you say, “it’s alright”,
With much care steaming in your eyes,
Have made me realize the little things that matters.
