A Gift of Grace
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
By the grace given unto me,
I say to every one of you;
Think of himself he ought to see,
Sober judgment that will be true.
More highly than he ought to think,
The faith according to measure;
That God has assigned as to link,
Unto the inherited treasure.
One body has many members,
Not all with the same function;
Many gifts that one remembers,
Guarding against the corruption.
So we being many in Christ,
One member to one another;
And willing to be sacrificed,
For interests of each other.
Having gifts differing in grace,
To our faith in proportion;
For Jesus Christ that will embrace,
Perfection without distortion.
If service in our serving,
One who teaches in his teaching;
Straight and narrow never curing,
Accomplished in your outreaching.
To exhort in exhortation,
Bestows in generosity;
Is giving an exploration,
Rewards you with prosperity.
For the one who will lead with zeal,
With a cheerful act of mercy;
Unto the Lord, you will reveal,
Having spiritual courtesy.
