We Gather Together

We gather together,
Each approaching holiday season.
To greet, meet and feast.
Delicious meals.
Prepared for us to eat.

And...
As an afterthought.
We are taught to ask the Lord,
With heads to bow and eyes closed.
For more blessings from the Lord
To allow and grant us the ability.
With a doing to enable us to afford,
Even more to meet those wants...
Not to need but impress.
Those invited in our homes to address,
A feast.
Spread out abundantly upon a table.
Where not enough seats,
To accommodate the people.
Who came just to eat.
Then to leave.
With plates full of food.
A few remaining to stay and say,
How thankful they are to help...
Clean up the mess the others left.

We gather together,
To ask the Lord's blessings.
Then hasten to chase,
Through an exit to stuff our faces.
Done to do the following day,
With this to say...
Is there anything leftover from yesterday!

And each holiday season,
This to prioritize is on our minds.

'Oh...
Thank YOU Lord,
For blessing us to gather together.
Each season to meet, greet and feast.
Then leave with too much food to eat.
As we express our gratefulness to celebrate!

WHO ATE UP,
ALL THE MACARONI AND CHEESE?
AND WHAT HAPPENED,
TO THE HAM, COLLARD GREENS...
AND THE SWEET POTATO PIE,
I LEFT IN THE REFRIGERATOR LAST NIGHT?
I'M TELLING YOU,
WHOEVER DID THIS IS THOUGHTLESS!'
