Living in the Garden

Seeds in the garden you never get to see.
I live in the garden;
the flowers are growing beautifully.
Pink and gold roses,
marigolds and morning glories.
Your statue stands tall in the center,
we gather 'round and share stories.
We live and laugh and remember you,
we love you still.
There are those that don't understand us,
that stand outside the garden gates and wonder what is so special.
They have not yet seen you,
the way you held us when we cried,
the way you laughed and cared for us in your own way.
Maybe one day,
one day,
the flowers will wilt,
the gates may become overgrown with vines,
your golden crown may dull and eyes become weary.
But for now we live in the garden.
Maybe I am still traveling,
maybe this is not my home,
but you have welcomed me so.
I will always be proud to live in your garden.

About this poem

A poem about communal grieving. I wrote this because an influential social media creator passed away recently and the way the community has been grieving inspired me.
