Illusions
Joel A. Borromeo II 2021 (Dumaguete City)
Some roads are harder
to walk upon.
so why do we hold on when
it’s easier to let go?
Because easy is an illusion.
You cannot say
someone
has an easier life than you.
We have different burdens to bear,
and we carry our happiness
and our sorrows
at different times.
So let us walk our path....
let us walk
until our road smoothens out
and we get to see
the better view
just beyond this rocky bend.
Because I know this to be true,
that all my burdens are lighter
when I’m with you
About this poem
This poem was written at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. It was during this time that we both got infected and had to be hospitalized. Lying in bed, and confronted with our mortality, came the realization that nothing is ever guaranteed. And out of all the anxiety and dread, I wrote this. more »
