This Two Shall Step

Janet w Mulligan 1984 (California)

October 22

Just talk to me
Let it all out please
No matter my stance
We are doing a dance
Now What you say
And when you stay
I hear those words
I heed those words

I’ll speak my truth
But you gotta hear me out without turning me loose.
It’s like hanging me out to dry
When my words just go flying by
Don’t do that to me, ‘cause
You won’t find me on my knees
Trying to breath
Just for you to be pleased

Dance with me
Come on over and
Dance with me
Let’s free our souls
Let’s free ourselves
Be like the momentary lapse of reason
An album of psychedelic social treason
Partake with me
Now that’s something I can believe in

I don’t want to do it alone
I won’t be alone
I got a huge home
Rooms to fill
Where people can sleep
Cause we all are reaching so deep
Making it happen
We gotta give the dance
Just another chance

Trust and believe
We were meant to succeed
So come dance with me
I wanna hear those words
I want to fight the urge
Tell me your story
And shoot me straight
Cause you know I’ll just lock the gate
Got too many places to be and things to see
Wasting my time ain’t apart of this rhythm

Come talk to me
What’s up those sleeves ?
You trying to be a thief
That outfit doesn’t suit you so well
But I won’t kiss and tell
Stop sizing me up
I am not your pup
Just move your feet
You don’t even need to speak

Yeah Dance with me
Come on over
A little closer to me
Choose to move those feet
Your toes be all tied up in knots
That ain’t hot— it’s just not
Be like the momentary lapse of reason
An album of psychedelic social treason
Just be that something that I can finally start to believe in again….
