Fathered Discipline
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Consider who endured sinners,
That you may not grow faint-hearted;
For fathers are discipliners,
So wrongdoings are departed.
Because your struggle against sin,
Unto blood, you do not resist;
Because the lack of discipline,
From the temptations that exist.
You forgot the exhortation,
Addressing you as His child;
Which is an abomination,
Of someone that has gone wild.
The Lord disciplines out of love,
Chastises sons and daughters;
Receiving it from up above,
Punishing in troubled waters.
It is discipline to endure,
The Father treating a child;
For not resisting of the lure,
From temptation that defiled.
If left without the discipline,
You would be illegitimate;
And you will continue to sin,
In which would be sealing your fate.
We have earthly fathers to see,
Our behavior we respect;
Confessions in prayer make us be,
Admitting to our neglect.
They discipline for a short time,
That we share in His holiness;
Reminding us of our crime,
Because of the love and to bless.
Discipline has a little pain,
Rather than a pleasant feeling;
But righteousness yields to reign,
As the fruit is more appealing.
