The Joy of Forgiveness
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Bless whose trespass is forgiven,
Whose iniquities are covered;
A blanket falling from Heaven,
And righteousness is recovered.
Bless be against iniquity,
In whose spirit has no deceit;
His virtue in morality,
Tramples Satan under his feet.
Because when I had kept silent,
All my bones were wasting away;
My groaning had become violent,
Because I never did obey.
His hand had laid heavy on me;
My strength was completely dried up;
Because I was too blind to see,
Only the sand had filled my cup.
I had acknowledged my sin,
But dealt not with iniquity;
That has corrupted me within,
Guiding my immortality.
I confess my sins to the Lord,
And He forgave my transgression;
My faults and blunders not ignored,
Included in my confession.
Let all the godly offer prayer,
At a time when you may be found;
All repentance that you will share,
And hear the rushing water sound.
Rushing water of forgiveness,
Flood water for washing away;
Immersing you in blessedness,
Deliverance whence you went astray.
God will teach the way you should go,
Keeping an eye to counsel you;
Curbed with bridle and bit to show,
For guiding which way to pursue.
Many are sorrows of evil,
But love surrounds trust in the Lord;
Avoiding paths of the devil,
Proceed to let him be ignored.
Be glad in the Lord and rejoice,
All who are upright in your heart;
Shout for joy with a loud voice,
Righteously having a new start.
