THE NEW ALMIGHTY

mad hippie poet 1974 (new jersey)

I was always told the voices in my head were my own. If that rings true, who the f*ck is listening? My mama always told my son whatever I do; he should not push himself and not try to be a hero; I always told mama I am no one but my own.

Today  I saw a grackle standing on a branch outside my window. We had a stare-down for what seemed like a damn near eternity, and the images I received same so clear. My genuine emotions and perception are so far, yet the sound of my song is so near.

I am hearing popping sounds all around me. It reminds me of tip-toeing on bubble wrap; are they the sound of the resemblance of my past fading away?

What does this mean if nothing you once held carries any meaning? I realize what my loved ones meant to see that I am the new almighty.
