The Gift

The day I was born I became a gift to my mother.
She was a mother that I challenged, disobeyed and loved.
She never took her eyes off the gift and continued to unwrap the ribbons of my life because to her; I was a gift.
Through the years of joy, tears, laughter and sadness that can be life, my mother stood in the doorway to help me navigate, never taking her eyed off her gift.
If I could speak to my mother one last time I would tell her that the minute I was born she became the gift to me.

About this poem

I lost my mother when she was just 60 years old and I think of her every day and everything she taught me so I wrote this poem for her on Mother's Day 2019
