Life as a teenager in highschool

DaShawn McDonald 2007 (Saint Louis)

As a teen, I'm caught in between
The innocence of childhood and the adulthood scene I'm navigating this world, trying to find my place Sometimes I feel lost, but I keep up the pace

I’m torn between wanting to fit in
And wanting to be unique, to stand out in win I’m trying to find my own identity
In a world that is filled with complexity
I’m trying to figure out who I want to be
Exploring my interest, trying to break free
From the expectations from those around me,
I’m carving out my destiny like I'm digging out a bottomless pit.
There were days that felt like life smacked me in the face with a rock When things that matter me aren’t enough
Peer pressure and social media can be rough
I know I can get through it, Im strong enough
I’m learning to take risk and make mistakes
To embrace the journey, not just the destination I chase I’m discovering new things everyday
I’m excited to see where this path will take me.
As a teen, life can feel like a roller coaster ride
Sometimes I'm up, sometimes I'm down, but I never hide
I'm learning to embrace my emotions and be true
To myself and others, as I navigate this teenage world a new me
