The Wicklow Way
The Wicklow Way beckons hikers each day,
To bask in the sights and put worries away.
Go trek the way and have some fun!
Inhale the air so fresh and views serene.
Take a stroll through the greenest meadows,
Gaze upon vistas that take your breath away.
Whether on mountains high or in valleys low,
Glimpse the beauty of the Wicklow Way.
You'll cross streams and creeks deep,
And pass near to quaint Irish villages.
Then climb hills and wander the paths,
Freshened by the heather scent of a mountainy breeze.
Along your pathway there is to be seen,
Waterfalls and eskers with waters pure and clean.
Remnants from when Wicklow was anything but green,
When the icefields existed, then, by mankind unseen.
You’ll see the remains of Wicklow’s history,
When mining was once a critical industry,
Now laying dormant and still,
Old mines populate many a valley and hill.
Go explore the Wicklow way today,
To find the beauty hidden away.
As you wander, you’ll find new delights,
And share memes of the wonderful sights.
About this poem
The Wicklow Way is a network of self guided walking tours throughout the county. It begins in Rathfarnham, Co. Dublin and weaves its way through County Wicklow terminating in Clonegal, County Carlow, a distance of about 127Km. It’s a multi-day hike for the endurance hiker but one day hikes are not uncommon.
