Dark Minds

My brother is consumed
by the thought of
guerilla warfare.

It’s only a matter of time —
My generation are just
soldiers
without a war.

He drinks like a
fish
and it breaks his heart
to leave his kids
when he goes away
for work.

But he makes sure they know he loves them
Like he should have been loved
when he was a kid.

I wish I could
convince him
that
he doesn’t
deserve
all of
his
pain
but he is adamant
that he
does.

So his wife
hides the rum.
