Shallow Endings

Where do shallow endings lead
Until the brain jumps?
A dishfilled day glistens.

Who decided these lexicons
Are available
When lazy dreaming allays?

Awakening in the midst
Of beauty
Once where reality feels.

Where do shallow endings lead?
Grounded tones of laughter
Cascading into the sun.

The sky reflects
On passion’s edge,
The poem curls
Around the frame.

Where do shallow endings lead
To the boxes of forgotten thoughts,
Washed away like unspoiled pain?

Eyes capture reflections
Of moments once had
When life was untrained.

Where do shallow endings lead
A conscious matter of existence,
Collapsed upon itself?

The shimmering surface temptress,
Those depths once reached,
Now hidden in the vaults of silence.

Where do shallow endings lead?
Each page turns to the next
As fire meets kindling's warmth.

The brush of a season’s breath
Lingers on the final refrain.

About this poem

This poem explores the idea of shallow endings and where they ultimately lead. It questions the value and significance of these seemingly insignificant conclusions.
