The Waves Of Heat
The Waves Of Heat
Waves of heat wash all over me
The surge of sunlight so hot and bright
Sweep over my body and face
From the reflections of the street
Heavy as a crashing sea
Burdensome as multiplying gravity
Defeating my due diligence
To remain cooler and calm.
Death defying days under the Sun
Go against my natural hue
I am colored golden brown
Only until I start to resemble flames
The clouds do little to shield me
They are wishes for wind and rain
As I stroll along in silence
Sweating tears on tanned skin.
I count my blessings in shade
Draping me in cool places
Shadows serve me well
Walking in soothing spaces
Here along my lonely road
I dream of cold drinks
Feeling the breeze
I walk in invisible comfort.
The sensation of chilling air
Brings relief from the heat wave
Soaking up all its freshness
My body tones down to rest
The infernal journey over
I relax my feet and thoughts
Away from the torrid temperatures
Settling down to the cold.
