Christian Morality
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Let your love be genuine,
And abhor what is evil;
Never to be ruled by sin,
Those are works of the devil.
Hold fast to things that are good,
Show love to one another;
Brotherly affection should,
Show honor to your brother.
Be not slothful in your zeal,
But be fervent in spirit;
Let not your heart to conceal,
Transparency in merit.
Always rejoice in your hope,
Patience in tribulation;
Constant in prayer as you cope,
Which assures your salvation.
Bestow to needs of the saints,
Showing hospitality;
Preach the Word without restraints,
That warrants morality.
Bless those who persecute you,
Blessings but never curse them;
The path that they would pursue,
At Judgment, God will condemn.
Rejoice with those who rejoice,
And weep with someone who cries;
Be harmonious in voice,
Help them to open their eyes.
Live with them in harmony,
Never try to be haughty;
Rather humbled and lowly,
And avoid being naughty.
Be not wise in your conceit,
Never causing someone harm;
Nor avenge for who would cheat,
Rather use spiritual charm.
For it will depend on you,
To live peaceably with all;
To others remaining true,
At all times that may befall.
