Follow me into Hell
Rachel McGurn 1988 (California)
Follow behind me any closer and hitch a ride.
Do you think you want one?
Because you've put me in a state of rage.
But what if I don't know what rage is, what if rage feels like shock instead?
Silent voices talk in my head.
Does that make it any more dangerous for you?
Or is rage simply rage, all the same, yours and mine intertwined.
Follow behind me any closer.
You don't think I'll look back.
One smash of the breaks and smack.
Was it all really worth your time.
Trampling on mine?
I have nothing to lose.
Not even money.
Go ahead and run into me honey.
What have you got to lose?
Showing me some sort of, what is it called again?
I slow down and you speed up.
I speed up and you speed up.
Want to fight?
Get out of your car.
And I'll get out of mine.
No guns though.
Only muscle to fat.
I've lost mine laid off from the work force.
Can you cope with that?
Are you trying to get to work?
Do I care?
Did you leave on time?
Do I care?
How has your problem become mine in such short a time?
Why not slow down and give me room?
Drive on the highway
If you must go vroom vroom.
See the speed limit sign?
I thought for sure it said thirty-five.
You've lost something.
And I've lost mine.
Not sure where.
See that police officer over there?
He might cuff me and bind me and put me away.
Was it all worth ruining our day?
To drive through me, instead of around.
I put the brakes on.
And put you in the ground.
I didn't think I would let it go this far.
I was just trying to get to the bar.
About this poem
Everyone does not like tailgating, am I right? I tried to turn my feelings about tailgating into something that might actually help someone else too. That is usually one of the goals I strive for.
