Vineyard Song
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
Let me sing for my beloved,
My love song for His vineyard;
Confidence has been sure-footed,
While I am reading His Word.
My beloved planted on a hill,
A fruitful vineyard as fertile;
With the choicest grapes that do fill,
That God gave heavenly approval.
He dug the land and cleared the rocks,
Where He planted the choicest vines;
I pray to my beloved who talks,
Assured to make the finest wines.
He built a watchtower inside,
Hewed out a vat for a winepress;
Ever vigilant and abide,
With my beloved who I bless.
The inhabitants will judge me.
To betwixt my vineyard and I;
What more is there to do and see,
Other than to make the grapes cry;
I will tell you what I will do,
Remove the hedge, break down its wall;
Allow the beasts to trample through,
The grapevines are wasted and fall.
I let the briers and thorns grow,
No rain shall fall upon the ground;
Only my beloved will know,
When clouds bring a thundering sound.
The vineyard of the Lord of Host,
Men of Judah pleasantly plant;
Behold bloodshed from those who boast,
As Israel will sing their chant.
For they are looking for justice,
In hopes that God hears the outcry;
In giving them the righteousness,
For their praises will glorify.
