My Moon

C. L. Colby 1983 (Rhode Island)

October 23

I found a love with the moon
I had once with the sea
A kindred friend who sits with me.
Spoken without words
I visit my friend.
Looking forward to the moments
When I see her again
She sees all my thoughts
And takes them away
Alchemizes them to lightness
And all weight melts away
The sea once did the same
 I grieve for our peace
Our solitude we shared
In the mornings on the beach
I know shes out there
Holding hearts as she did mine
And I'll see her again
She knows no time
She told me that the day I left
It was goodbye, and I wept
She told me to go
It needed to be
I would always be her child
 born by the sea
No matter how far I go
Or mountains I climb
I am hers
 and she is mine
When the waxing moon shined tonight
 Whispering of the sea
I can feel her shine on my ocean
While she shines down on me
